KARACHI:The drug maker Pfizer Inc. is facing growing concerns over the effectiveness of its erectile dysfunction drug Viagra, which is sold under the brand name Levitra. The drug, which is only approved for men with erectile dysfunction, will now be available online as a generic product by a company called Cipla Inc.
Cipla, which is based in Mumbai, was seeking regulatory approval for the generic version of Levitra. Cipla has already received FDA approval for its erectile dysfunction drug.
The generic version of Levitra, which Pfizer is producing as a generic product, will be available in India by the end of March next year.
Shares of Pfizer, India's largest pharmaceutical company, plunged nearly 2 per cent on the news.
